Bibi Jagir Kaur took birth in a small village, Bhatnura of distt Jalandhar on 15th of October 1954. Sardar Girdhara Singh and Smt. Parsin Kaur were her father and mother respectively. Bibi Jagir Kaur belonged to a mediocre family as her father used to serve for Indian Army. She has five sisters and three brothers eldest brother is Lt. Col. S. Joginder Singh who serve Indian Army, second brother is retired Principal whose name is S. Mohinder Singh and youngest one is a Nuclear Scientist with name Prof. Nirmal Singh.
After completing her intermediate academic education, Bibi Jagir Kaur started her Bachelor's Degree from GCGW, Chandigarh and later she completed from Govt. College Tanda and after having these degrees, she completed her B.Ed. from Montgomery Guru Nanak College, Jalandhar.
By being a well-educated personality, Bibi Jagir Kaur served as Government mathematics teacher for more than 11 years and provided the best education for Maths subject.
On 15th of June 1980, Bibi Jagir Kaur got tied in matrimonial knots with Sardar Charanjit Singh who was the son of Sardar Harnam Singh, an Ex. Forest Minister in Punjab Government. After the marriage, Bibi Ji became mother of two daughters, Harpreet Kaur and Rajneet Kaur.
The Prosperity survived for only few years in Bibi Ji's life, as her husband got expired on 3rd of September 1983 and left them all by spending only three years of wedding life with her. This tragedy shaken the life of Bibi Jagir Kaur but she did not let her life be fragile.
By taking care for her two daughters-(one and half year and second one was two months old only), she devoted all her life to serve for public by being a famous social activist. She managed her family and social service responsibilities in a very well manner. As where, our system pull a female back from her desired goals and try to keep her caged under the walls of social pressure, Bibi ji strongly grappled each obstacle occurred in her life.
In 1988, when Beas river were devastating its nearby area due to heavy flood, the area belonged to Bibi Jagir Kaur also gone through this disastrous trauma, as the crops and the residential areas were eradicated. But as we know she is like a pillar of strength, BibiJiplayed a major role in helping victims of flood and by following the thin end of the edge along with military and paramilitary forces, she provided all the necessary items like clothes, food and beddings etc. to the victims houses.
That time local communities realized her as their sympathizer and perceived her as their political leader. Here, BibiJi accepted the wish of their followers and made them satisfied by joining the pool of politics to serve for public.
Now BibiJi is serving for that sector which was personally developed by Sacred Soul, SantPrem Sing jiMurale Wale. In the memory of Sant Baba Prem Singh and by keeping the repute of Akal Takhat at front, BibiJi developed a Gurudwara Sahib in the name of SantPrem Singh Ji.
From 1905, by following the postulates of MiriPiri, BibiJi's family is devoted to public service. Till now, Bidi Ji contested seven elections; among them four were legislation assembly and three SGPC.
Bibi Jagir Kaur's Political Journey
In 1992, Akali Dal boycotted the Punjab assembly elections and kept itself away from this war of elections.
After this tenure, in 1996, she got ticket from Akali Dal Badalto contest on Bholath constituency for SGPC elections and remained winner with the difference of 15052 votes.
This success was proven as her entry step into politics, as in 1997 she fought for Punjab assembly Elections under the banner of Akali Dal Badal and created a benchmark of winner with the difference of 28027 votes. By watching her political skills and popularity among local public, and the government offered her the designation of Cabinet Minister even at initial stage. That time she was just 35 years old and she also got chance to serve for ministry of child and women welfare, ministry of tourism and culture and alike.
1999- A time came, while performing her duties for Sant Baba Prem Singh Ji' organization, she got a chance to create a history in 16th of March 1999, when she was elected as the first woman president of ShiromaniGurudwaraPrabandhak Committee-(SGPC) Amritsar.
Year 2000, remained sorrowful for BibiJi, as her elder daughter Harpreet Kaur died by God's wish. This tragedy took her to a traumatic shock. But she considered it as the wish of God almighty and diverted herself again towards Sikhism service. Some leg-pullers, atheists and oppositions party members to chance of her silence on this tragedy, as they tried to spread falsity among her followers and other communities so that she could lose her positions and popularity. This mendacity took her to judicial courts where she struggled a lot to prove herself innocent. And at the end as everyone knows truth always reamin winner and BibiJi became free from all the allegations and untrue marks. The respected court released her and gave back her positions again.
In year 2002, she again contested from Bholath constituency and remained winner with the difference of 13500 votes. Also Bibi Jagir Kaur Ji once again got a chance to serve for SGPC, as she got ticket from SAD (Badal) and contested for SGPC elections and remained winner for the third time.
Again in year 2007, she contested from Bholath constituency and this time she became the chairperson of District Planning Committee of Kapurthala.
This was the fourth time when Bibi Jagir Kaur Ji remained winner in the elections of 2012 from Bholath constituency. This time again she became Cabinet Minister under that time's government. It was strange that in the full Cabinet of the present government Bibi Ji was the only female candidate who took oath as a minister. That time she got a chance to serve for water supply department under the concerned ministry.
In 2016, Shiromani Akali Dal counted her achievements and her hard work and political skills and considered her as the President of Woman wing, and she has been still performing her duties of the given designation. By being the president of woman wing, she tried well to lift-up the status of woman and also organized religious conventions related to the palaces of Sikh mentors of Sikhism's history:
During these continuous celebrations, Bibi Jagir Kaur Ji was invited by Karnataka Government and by keeping all her efforts and hard work along with the high end achievements, they represented her with "Bhagirath Award". BibiJi always came at front to serve for Sikh community and Sikh pilgrims bravely, dedication and simplicity and also served for other communities without keeping any partiality. May God give her long life and good health? So that she could keep serving for the community persistently.
After seeing Bibi Jagir Kaur 's such tremendous dedication towards society and honesty, Punjab political party Shiromani Akali Dal given her ticket for contesting Parliamentary Elections to be held on 19th May' 2019 from MP constituency of Khadoor Sahib. Party has strong faith on her winning these upcoming elections.
